The CSTE leadership will guide the association, fully utilizing organizational resources and operations to facilitate:
Improving the capacity for state, territorial and local public health agencies to effectively use epidemiologic data to guide public health practice:
a. Define and build epidemiology capacity
- Develop model of epidemiology functions (core functions)
- Conduct assessments of epidemiologic training, resources and technology needs
- Develop materials and conduct or sponsor training to address identified needs
- Establish minimum standards (practice, capacities and staffing)
- Develop programs and support policies to increase the proportion of state, local and territorial public health agencies meeting or exceeding standards
- Develop programs and support policies that support excellence and diversity of the public health and epidemiologic workforce
- Develop leadership within epidemiologists at state, territorial and local public health agencies
Implement National Public Health Surveillance System

Enhancing the ability for CSTE to support its members effectively by improving the leadership and capacity for epidemiologists to contribute to changing the health status of the nation.
