2010 Occupational Health Educational Webinar

CSTE in collaboration with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) hosted a teleconference on June 23, 2010. The purpose of the CSTE/NIOSH teleconference was to enhance state-based occupational health surveillance capacity by promoting state, regional, and nationwide collaboration. The topic for this most recent teleconference was the State-based Occupational Health Clearinghouse website. Participants were updated on the development of the Clearinghouse and were shown a short online demo before answering questions related to its usability. Additionally, NIOSH explained how to use the RSS Editor to maintain RSS/XML files for the Clearinghouse.


2008 Occupational Health Educational Webinar

The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) in collaboration with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) held their 2nd annual educational webinar on December 3, 2008. The purpose of the CSTE/NIOSH educational webinar is to improve state-based occupational health surveillance capacity by promoting state, regional, and nationwide collaboration. The 2008 webinar provided an overview of several surveillance-related activities taking place intramurally within the Surveillance Branch in the Division of Surveillance, Hazard Evaluations and Field Studies at NIOSH.

What is an Occupational Health Indicator?
An Occupational Health Indicator is a measure (or a set of related measures) of occupational health (i.e., the occurrence of a work-related disease or injury) or factor associated with occupational health (i.e., workplace exposures, hazards, or interventions in a specified population.  These OHIs can be generated by each state to track trends in the occupational health status of working people.
