Welcome to the CSTE/CDC Applied Epidemiology Fellowship Application

In order to apply for the Fellowship, applicants must meet the program's minimum qualifications:
  • An MPH, MSPH, MS, or an equivalent or advanced level degree in a health related field;
  • Completed at least three graduate-level epidemiology courses and one graduate level biostatistics course;
  • Desire to pursue a long-term career at the state or local level; and
  • United States Citizenship

The deadline for submission is February 1st, 2010. All application materials must be received by the deadline to be considered for acceptance. Incomplete applications or applications received after this deadline will not be considered for the 2010 Class of the CSTE/CDC Applied Epidemiology Fellowship.

What is the application process?
To apply for the program, please register using the "Fellow Application" button above. You will then have access to the application.

Your application must be completed in full before it will be reviewed. The application includes the following components:

  • Identifying information
  • Education
  • Professional Experience
  • Program areas of interest
  • Geographical preferences or needs
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • Official transcripts from all degree granting programs
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship (passport, birth certificate, etc)

You may send all materials in one packet directly to CSTE, or you may have the recommendations and transcripts sent directly to CSTE from their points of origin. You will receive an email confirmation after submission of the online application materials.

All applications that meet minimum requirements will be formally evaluated by at least two members of a review committee. Their review committee will include representatives from CDC staff, ASPH affiliates, and persons with past or current experience working as an epidemiologist in a state or local health department. Criteria for evaluating the applications include the following: After this evaluation, top applicants will be selected for in-person interviews. The number of applicants selected for interviews will depend upon the number of funded positions and the quality of applications. Finalists will then be selected and matched with the available positions at state and local health agencies.
