Missouri Treatment Cascade, 2010 and 2011

After participating in the Quarterly Surveillance Call on April 9, we reviewed the 2011 treatment cascade and decided to omit both the "Infected" and "Diagnosed" bars.  The result is a comparison of the percentage of linkage to care, individuals retained in care, and viral suppression among those whose most recent diagnosis of HIV or AIDS was in Missouri.  Additionally, we wanted to more accurately describe viral suppression as a result of HIV care.  To do this, we split the "Virally Suppressed" bar into those who were retained in care and those who were not.

After finalizing the 2011 cascade, we went back and constructed the 2010 cascade for comparison.  We were surprised how much the measurements changed for viral suppression between 2010 and 2011, and were not able to explain this difference as being due to coding or calculation errors, or major differences in service delivery.

We would appreciate input on the method of construction of the Missouri treatment cascade and comments about trends in viral suppression.

Thank you!
