The Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Indicators Subcommittee supports CSTE’s efforts to promote state-level epidemiologic capacity for AOD surveillance and to establish guidelines for the selection and use of AOD surveillance indicators.
In the past, the subcommittee has worked on developing an indicator on substance abuse hospitalizations, which will focus on hospitalizations that are primarily due to alcohol and other drugs. The indicator will include a definition, a list of ICD-9-CM codes to use for case-finding, and a how-to guide for implementation. Once pilot tested by states, the indicator will be finalized and published in MMWR. The subcommittee plans to develop other substance abuse indicators such as "Hospitalizations Related to Alcohol and Other Drugs.” For a template of the indicator of Alcohol and Other Drug Hospitalizations, click here.
The subcommittee meets monthly via conference call. For more information about the Alcohol and Other Drug Surveillance Subcommittee and its activities, please contact Nidal Kram. Click here to view other Cross Cutting Steering Committee activities.
