Chronic/MCH/Oral Health: CD Surveillance/Informatics

The Chronic Disease Surveillance and Informatics (CDSI) Subcommittee was established to represent the interests of the Chronic Disease/Maternal and Child Health/Oral Health Steering Committee on a Surveillance/Informatics Steering Committee initiative. Since then, the subcommittee continues to participate in and provide input on various chronic disease-related surveillance and informatics activities.

In accordance with the subcommittee's goal to coordinate chronic disease surveillance and informatics activities, the subcommittee conducted an assessment in 2011 to evaluate chronic disease surveillance activities using e-health information. The purposes of the assessment were:
  • To determine involvement of public health in e-health activities,
  • To assess the utilization of e-health activities for chronic disease surveillance, and
  • To define challenges to the utilization of e-health activities for chronic disease surveillance.
A short summary of the assessment will be available on the CSTE website in fall 2012, and a follow-up assessment will be conducted to gauge the utilization of e-health information in chronic disease surveillance since 2011.
