| This page contains the components necessary to complete the Drug Overdose Death Special Emphasis Report. Because of the complex nature of the topic and data, there are a few more components than with the previous special emphasis reports. |
 |
- The State Special Emphasis Report: Instructions for Drug Overdose Death Data document which includes both instructions on how to prepare the data and how to use the provided template. Please pay particular attention to Appendix B that contains some questions about your death data to consider prior to completing the analysis and template.
- The Word 2010 version of two templates. The choice of template depends on your state’s data access and quality and is further explained in the instruction document. Once the template is completed, we recommend saving them as pdf files for distribution.
- A rate calculation spreadsheet to help produce Figure 1 in the template (SER_Drug_Deaths_1999-2013_for_Fig1.xslx).
- An Excel file with several alternate figures that can be used in place of, or in addition to, the figures currently in the template (SER_Drug_Deaths_Alternate_Figures.xlsx).
- An excerpt from the “Issues to Consider When Analyzing ICD-10 Coded Data on Drug Poisoning (Overdose) Deaths” document which provides a brief description of issues to consider when using death certificate data to study drug overdose deaths. The full document is currently in clearance.
- An Excel file with information on the completeness and specificity of the US drug overdose death data that can be used in conjunction with Appendix B when evaluating the completeness and specificity of your own state’s data (Appendix_B_US_numbers_99-13.xlsx).
