| Surveillance and InformaticsOur WorkCSTE’s Surveillance and Informatics Steering Committee (SI) works within its various subcommittees and workgroups and across the organization to support and strengthen our nation’s capacity to prevent and respond to public health threats. With the goal of obtaining faster, actionable data, SI provides a platform to advance key surveillance tools, including modernized diseases surveillance systems, electronic laboratory reporting, electronic case reporting, as well as the development and implementation of standards for shared vocabularies and data exchange. SI seeks to improve public health disease surveillance for state, local, tribal, and territorial health departments through the sharing of best practices, fostering partnerships, supporting policy development, and providing training.
This work is driven by collaborations across all levels of the public health ecosystem. SI Steering Committee members regularly engage with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP), Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), Public Health Informatics Institute (PHII), and other organizations to develop position statements, assessments, data and messaging standards, and tools that advance data modernization and support disease surveillance and informatics capabilities and competencies.
