Subcommittee Co-Chairs:Carol-Ann Swain, PhD (NYS) & James Carrier, MPH (MD)
The HIV subcommittee comprises HIV Surveillance Coordinators, HIV epidemiologists, various health department staff, and students who are interested in and working on activities surrounding HIV surveillance. The Subcommittee frequently works with the CDC HIV Incidence and Case Surveillance Branch (HICSB) and uses its expertise in HIV epidemiology to inform CSTE and effectively use epidemiologic HIV data to guide public health practice. The Subcommittee also supports national partners working to end the HIV epidemic, including the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD).
The Subcommittee holds monthly conference calls and webinars to discuss current issues and overarching topics related to HIV epidemiology and surveillance, such as the use of HIV surveillance data by other programs, HIV indicators, data analysis issues, and new or upcoming publications and meetings. Additional CSTE activities that support the HIV epidemiology and surveillance community include hosting the HIV Contact Board, peer-to-peer technical assistance opportunities, development of position statements and briefs related to HIV surveillance and policy issues, and capacity building resource development.
