The Division of Global Migration and Quarantine (DGMQ),
CDC, is recruiting for a GS-15 Medical Officer or Epidemiologist (or
Commissioned Officer equivalent) to serve as a senior member of the Immigrant,
Refugee and Migrant Health Branch, with official duty location in Bangkok,
Thailand. This is a 2-year assignment and may be extended an additional 2
years. Desired, but not required, qualifications include experience
working with refugee and/or migrant populations and experience working with
infectious diseases.
The mission of the DGMQ is to reduce morbidity and
mortality and promote and improve the health of globally mobile populations
entering the United States and to protect the health security of the US and
partner countries by preventing the importation and transmission of infectious
diseases and other conditions of public health significance.
This position will serve as the DGMQ Program Director at
the Thailand Ministry of Public Health and CDC Collaboration (TUC) and DGMQ
representative for the Asia-Pacific region, liaise with key partners,
especially the CDC International Emerging Infections Program, Tuberculosis and
Global Immunization Programs, the Department of State’s Bureau of Population,
Refugees and Migration (PRM), the International Organization for Migration
(IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), World Health
Organization (WHO), regional Ministries of Health and non-governmental organizations
providing primary health care services to vulnerable and mobile populations, to
provide consultation for incorporating public health concerns and practices
into the refugee resettlement process and migrant and border health needs. The incumbent will collaborate with
international partners and other refugee recipient nations (Australia, Canada,
United Kingdom, and New Zealand) regarding optimizing medical screening and
treatment of resettling immigrants and refugees from Asia.
To accomplish these objectives, the incumbent will apply
medical and epidemiological expertise to conduct epidemiologic investigations
and population evaluations and to develop surveillance systems to identify risk
factors for infectious diseases among immigrant, refugee and migrant
populations. The incumbent will use data
and results to guide provision of prevention recommendations to national and
international partners and will provide consultation and participate in refugee
emergency response activities, preparedness planning and outbreak response, and
development of guidelines for disease screening and treatment in refugee and
migrant populations.
