DSTT and APHIF Host Site applications now open: CSTE Data Science and Informatics Training

DSTT and APHIF Host Site applications now open: CSTE Data Science and Informatics Training Opportunities

The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) is pleased to announce two data science and informatics training opportunities. Team applications are now open for the second year of the Data Science Team Training (DSTT) program and host site applications are available for the relaunched Applied Public Health Informatics Fellowship (APHIF).

The Data Science Team Training program is an opportunity for epidemiologists at public health agencies to gain data science skills through a project-based, on-the-job approach. DSTT is a 12-month program that will begin in January 2022. The program includes online course instruction in data science fundamentals, peer-to-peer learning, and coaching from subject matter experts as participants work on a data science project at their agency. Teams of 3-5 should apply to work on a project building informatics or data science capacity within their health department. Participants should anticipate committing 4-5 hours per month to this program, distributed across engaging with course content, working on projects and collaborating with peers.

Teams will need a letter of support from their agency. Health departments with all levels of data science and informatics capacity are encouraged to apply.

CSTE is also relaunching the Applied Public Health Informatics Fellowship. APHIF is a two-year fellowship program for recent graduates in the fields of public health informatics and data science. Fellows work on a variety of projects at their host site and in return explore long-term career opportunities in applied public health. In order to host a fellow for the 2022-2024 class, host sites provide experienced mentors, applied projects supporting data modernization work at the intersection of epi and lab, and hands-on learning experiences. The APHIF host site application is available online and applications are due January 9, 2022. 

Start your DSTT application today! Applications are available online and are due December 5, 2021. There will be an informational webinar and Q&A held on November 17, 2021. More information about the application process for DSTT and APHIF is available on the CSTE website.

Sites participating in DSTT will be given priority to host an Applied Public Health Informatics Fellow.
