Advanced Molecular Detection Subcommittee

Purpose

The CSTE Advanced Molecular Detection (AMD) Workgroup is a group of epidemiologists and other public health professionals interested in utilizing the latest next-generation genomic sequencing technologies at local, state, tribal, and territorial health departments for disease detection, surveillance, outbreak investigation and prevention. As AMD technology is rapidly advancing; the purpose of this workgroup is identifying AMD training and knowledge gaps for epidemiologists, hosting presentations and discussions on priority topics such as building AMD epidemiologic workforce capacity or leveraging AMD during public health responses, and identifying opportunities to connect with federal, laboratory, and academic partners.

Goals

  • Leverage AMD Technology to fight, detect, and monitor emerging and persistent diseases
  • Bring together Epidemiologists, Laboratory Scientists and Bioinformatics to form best practices for utilizing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data to identify outbreaks fasters and prevent the spread of disease sooner
  • Address gaps in the epidemiology workforce’s knowledge in AMD by providing training, resources and tools
