Rising Leader Award

Background

The CSTE Rising Leader Award recognizes the contributions of a CSTE member who has demonstrated leadership for the field of applied epidemiology through excellence in inspiring others, navigating change, fostering partnership, and/or improving policy. The ideal honoree is an early or mid-career professional committed to supporting the people, processes, and policies as part of epidemiology practice at state, territorial, local, and tribal health departments. The winner will receive a plaque at a Plenary session of the CSTE Annual Conference, alongside presentations for other annual CSTE awards.

The Rising Leader Award intends to recognize an early or mid-career individual who has demonstrated excellence as a STLT leader. If you would like to recognize an individual who has shown outstanding leadership in collaboration with CSTE leadership and activities, please submit a nomination for the Distinguished Leader Award instead.

Nomination Guidelines

Current CSTE members submit a one-page letter explaining why the candidate is deserving of this award with specific examples. Additional letters of support are welcome. Self-nominations are not accepted. Each letter should include the candidate’s name, position, agency of service, relationship to the nominator, and address the following selection criteria. Selection criteria may include:
  • Outstanding effort to recognize and/or motivate others
  • Demonstrated commitment to engaging with collaborators
  • Dedication to continuous improvement and/or innovation
  • Service to STLT agency and/or CSTE
  • An early or mid-career professional* working in a state or local health agency in the field of applied epidemiology.

Review

Nominations are reviewed for completeness by CSTE Staff. Complete nomination letters will be reviewed by the Workforce Steering Committee leadership as part of the Program and Policy Committee. The Workforce Steering Committee leadership will provide the top two candidates for selection by the CSTE Executive Board.
